The Ultimate End-Of-Year Portable Storage Container Checklist

The-Ultimate-End-Of-Year-Portable-Storage-Container-Checklist-300x166-1Don’t look now, but we’re approaching New Year’s Resolutions season again. Instead of focusing on something unreasonable that you’re just going to quit in a month or two (e.g. eating more kale), why not do something more realistic instead?

The end of the year is the perfect opportunity to get your home or apartment in order. You can use portable storage containers for a variety of reasons, whether it’s to free up space or temporarily hold your belongings while you clean or get organized.

If you’re struggling on where to start, here is an exhaustive list of ideas for items that you can (or should) be placing in a portable storage container.

Furniture

Nearly every living space has some sort of furniture in it. Whether you have a couch, sofa, chair, chaise, futon, nightstand, TV stand, side table, dining table, recliner, sectional or something else, you can keep it in a container temporarily. Just make sure you protect it! Also, outdoor furniture is great for storing in cold-weather months to protect it from the elements.

Electronics

From computers, phones, radios and TVs to copiers, fax machines, scanners, surround sound systems, cameras and various other gadgets, there are likely electronics you want to keep on hand but don’t use regularly.

Appliances

Upgrading your appliances or have you received any duplicate appliances as a gift? Save them for yourself (or as a gift) by storing them. Refrigerators, vacuums, fans, humidifiers, microwaves, washers, dryers, dishwashers and others are all fair game.

Photos

Pictures are cherished by many, but we often have more than we know what to do with. Keep extra photos and photo albums stored while you get organized. Frames are another good storage candidate.

Mirrors

Don’t break your mirror or other glass objects while you’re cleaning. It’s bad luck! Instead, keep it secured in storage.

Glassware

If you have china, glassware, dishware or any other precious items made from crystal, glass or fragile materials, they might be safer in storage than traditional cabinetry.

Clothing

Store seasonal clothes, extra clothes and clothing you’re going to donate or sell in a portable storage container. We’re talking jeans, shirts, jackets, tops, bottoms, shoes, shorts, ties, belts, dresses, etc.

Curtains and Drapes

Some people like to let the light in during the winter months and block it during the summer. Curtains, drapes, valances and other window coverings are perfect candidates for temporary storage.

Files and Documents

Got a home office? Keep records for taxes? Have personal documentation? Not only will storing files and documents in a portable storage container free up space, they’ll keep them secure as well.

Collectibles and Antiques

Valuable collectible items like sports cards, old jewelry, paintings, rugs, comic books, lamps, vintage costumes, stamps, autographs, memorabilia and books are another great idea for storage.

Seasonal Items

From Easter and the Fourth of July to Halloween and Christmas, a storage container can house these decorations that you only use once a year.

Newspapers and Magazines

Got a stockpile of sentimental or valuable newspapers and magazines? These can easily take up lots of space. Why not store them instead?

Books

If you have an ever-increasing library of books that you don’t want to get rid of, they may be better off in a storage container until you can read them again.

DVDs and Other Media

We may have streaming options like Netflix these days, but you can’t find some of these movies anywhere other than your physical copy of the DVD or VHS. Keep them out of the way in a container.

Of course, there are some items you can’t store in a storage container, such as hazardous/flammable materials, animals, plants, food and more. If you’re in need of end-of-year portable storage, give us a call at 972-GET-A-SAM today.
